Our History
Church Health Services is a local, non-profit organization founded in 1993 by a physician and a pastor from Beaver Dam. CHS is an ecumenical health ministry committed to enacting God's plan for health among people within our entire community.
People within our local community and throughout America are facing some unhealthy consequences resulting from a few unfortunate situations. First, many of our neighbors lack public or private health insurance. Many face the struggles of poverty, including finding reliable income or means. Also, the church as an institution of love, compassion, service and healing no longer has an active presence in daily health care activities. People in general are in great need of expanding their understanding of health and illness.
Church Health Services seeks to re-involve the church as well as the entire community in a cooperative effort for health and healing. Our logo containing the church's stained-glass windows within the medical cross symbolizes this effort. CHS conducts clinics for the medically under-served with a staff heavily supported by volunteer health care professionals. Whole person health, wellness and personal responsibility are themes that form the foundation for clinical care and for the organization's message on health for the entire community. CHS also works with area congregations in promoting and managing a uniquely designed parish nurse program.
Initial results have been quite favorable. Patients and clients deeply appreciate our approach to care. Clinical staff and other volunteers find significant meaning in their time of service. It seems nearly all sectors of the community can identify with and support some aspects of CHS.
CHS employs over 30 staff and is blessed to have over 100 volunteers. Our staff and volunteers demonstrate a high level of commitment and enthusiasm as they work to improve the health of the people of our area communities by effectively addressing some tough health care situations. We believe in what we do, and it shows in our history, services and, most importantly, in the clients we assist with their physical, spiritual, and mental health needs.
You can learn more about all of the different aspects of our work and how you can be a part of it on this site. Please take time to explore and discover all CHS stands for, offers, strives for, and has been working on for over 30 years.
